Acid/Base Extraction Christina Wolverton 28 September 2016 TA: Alex Reese Results The starting weight of the 1:1:1 heterogeneous mixture was 0.626g. The final weight of the benzocaine recovered was 0.038g, and its melting point range was 84-88ºC (literature value = 92ºC). The final weight of the benzoic acid recovered was 0.091g, and its melting point range was 118-120ºC (literature value = 122.4ºC). The final weight of the fluorenone recovered was 0.259g, and its melting point range was 85- 89ºC (literature value = 84ºC). Percent Recovery = Benzocaine: (0.038g/0.209g)x100 = 18.2% Benzoic Acid: (0.091g/0.209g)x100 = 43.5% Fluorenone: (0.259g/0.209g)x100 = 124% Discussion/Conclusion On our first attempt, we shook the solution too vigorously and ended up redoing it
