Problem 1: (25 points) A SISO system with input u ( k ) and output y ( k ) is described by the difference equation y ( k +2)+( 1 2 + α ) y ( k +1)+ α 2 y ( k )= u ( k βu ( k ) , where α and β are real constants. 1. (4 points) State the characteristic equation for the system. 2. (7 points) Using the Jury stability test, determine the values of α and/or β so that the roots of the characteristic equation are within the unit circle. 3. (7 points) Verify your answer in part (ii) using the Routh Hurwitz method. Does your result depend on the sample period T ?
