Dimentia1Sam HindoDementia is a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning.Dementia is often found to be under diagnosed in primary care settings. Other research indicatesa physician’s failure to respond to symptoms, or behaviors that indicate dementia. Research has suggested that cognitive impairment is hard to assess by a health care professional. According to,dementia in Primary Care, Boise, Neal 2004; “Symptoms include difficulties in language, reasoning, spatial ability, or signs of poor memory, including being repetitive”(p.621). All these difficulties arise when one has dementia. Poor memory is a big indicator of dementia. Those with old age often forget silly details such as doctor appointments. The study found that aversive events were important in identifying the problem at hand. The cognitive function of the patient is largely determine by their history and therefore is important in identifying dementia like activity. The study began with picking people who were older than seventy five years old.
