LevyI was very intrigued when I sat in Morton Hall listening to the words of the only gay judge in the United States court system, Judith E. Levy. Although life was never easy for her, she never gave up. Judge Judith started off at Oberlin College, a very small school, and was just coming out as gay and wanted a bigger environment to do this because she wanted to be accepted by more people. Because of this, Judge Judith moved to Ann Harbor where she attended the University of Michigan Law School. Judge Judith was passionate when it came to law because her father was poor and her mother was a child survivor of the holocaust. Her mother came to the United States and was a part of an immigrant community. Judge Judith mentioned how Jewish families in Southern Indiana were not common, nor accepted. Her familyhad received lots of Anti-Semitic comments from this and she was raised feeling different and like an outcast. Being Jewish was hard enough for Judge Judith, however being gay on top of that was even more difficult. Judge Judith had been with her husband for 32 years before the marriage equality becamea law of the land. Now, with the legalization of same-sex marriage, she has been married for 3 years.
