FILM 115 FRI OCT 26 LECTURE Strangers on a Train , directed by Alfred Hitchcock About a rich tennis player who runs into another stranger on a train and their paths cross and they will exchange murders even though the rich tennis player doesn’t agree to this scheme. o Two parallel characters crossing paths and going their separate ways. The staging shows us the shoes as props. Fancy shoes vs. ordinary shoes. Parallel track shows encounter between the shoes, then the single train track splits. The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964), broadway musical Challenge for film version of musical is opening prelude visually The prelude defines a personality (the baby can’t sink) The Naked Kiss , directed by Fuller (watch the props and setting) In opening sequence, we don’t know story, but we know that the woman is going somewhere, covering herself with wig, hiding something, trying to begin a new life o Film is about the past catching up with you? Not a complete story, still doesn’t allow us to see what will happen to character
