As you work through this module, you will complete an experiment reflection, a free–response question (FRQ) practice, and create a journal entry. 08.00 Experiment Reflection Compose a reflection based on the experiments you observed and read about in the module. What is the role of scientific experiments in psychology? Use specific examples from the module. Your assignment will be graded according to this assignment rubric . Scientific experiments play a major role in psychology. For instance, when a research psychologist conducts a scientific experiment to test a hypothesis they collect important data that can be used in context to either strengthen(contribute to), disprove, or prove the hypothesis. To do this, psychologists use the information gathered to strengthen the hypothesis by providing further proof, disprove the hypothesis by providing contradictory evidence, or prove the hypothesis by collecting the same data and results as the researchers that came before him. Scientific experiments often bring about great discoveries. In this module, this chapter was all about personality and the many theories that come along with it. For example, there was a research conducted on identical twins separated at birth who when reunited acted the same. They were called the “Jims.” They shared interests in mechanical and carpentry, a love of math and a dread of spelling in high school, and smoked and drank the same amount. They shared many similarities and this lead the researchers to believe that personality is genetic. On the other hand, there were the Oskar and Jack twins who exhibited a number of similarities in personality and behavior but were raised in very different places and with different values. In terms of environment, Oskar and Jack were not so identical twins. 08.00 Free Response Question Practice After completing all of the lessons in this module, answer the following Free Response Question using the guidelines and grading rubric . Since Emma beat his score on the test, Dean decided he was having trouble in his AP Psychology class. Despite his efforts and recent success, he went back down to #2 status on his last exam.
