Chapter 25 The soviet union under Lenin and stalin - Whites were the bolshevics opponents (the reds), they were mostly comprised of supporters from the past regime. - The greens joined in with the whites who opposed all central state power, comprised of mostly peasants - The bolshevics eventually won from greater support. - A general of the reds lead them to victory named Leon Trostky. - The civil war made the bolsheviks lean toward a more raical economic stance known as “war communism” The nep period -Because “war communism” was failing so terribly the Bolsheviks emabarked on a radically different course known as the New Economic Policy (NEP). -The nep reverted to the state capitalism that had been tried immediately after the rev. this allowed for soviet agriculture to bounce back -Lenin was replaced by Joseph Stalin a the leader of the USSR Stalin and the “Revolution from above” -Stalin was a master in political strategy and he was fast at getting Trosky out of the
