And help transport CO2 . 7-8 micrometer in diameter Destruction of Red Blood cells .Damaged red cells are phagocytized by macrophages in the liver and spleen. .Hemooglobin molecules from the red cells undergoing destruction are broken down into molecular subunits of H E M E and Globin. .HEME is decomposed into iron and a greenish pigment called Biliverdin. Dietary Factors affecting Red Blood cell production .Vitamin B12 & Folic acid .are required for the synthesis of DNA .are needed by all cells for growth and reproduction....
