Biology 124L Fall 2016 Homework 2: Cell Division and Sexual Reproduction  (5 pts) 1. Somatic cell division produces new cells for organismal growth, development, and repair. What is the end result of one round of cell division for a single cell?  In your answer,  state how many cells are produced from a single parent cell and how the new cells  compare genetically to the parent cell.  (1pt)  2. Cell division occurs a lot in root tips, as roots grow throughout the soil to find water and  nutrients for plants. In lab, we observed onion root cells in various stages of cell division. Now consider a diploid plant cell, with a total of 6 chromosomes (2n= 6). Within the cell  walls provided, draw the arrangement of the chromosomes during a) metaphase and b)  anaphase of mitosis.  Make drawings by hand with a pen or pencil.  Drawings must  clearly depict the correct numbers and arrangements of chromosomes and/or chromatids  to receive full credit.  (0.5 pt each, 1 pt total) 3. Meiosis produces gametes in two rounds of divisions (Meiosis I and Meiosis II).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
