Small How do we do theology? 5 step process or 5 levels of investigation 1. Philosophical evaluation - To do theology you have to examine your presuppositions of the world – some of which have to be tested as the theological method unfolds 2. Biblical evaluation - Asking the question using all the verses of the Bible together as a whole 3. Historical development - The Bible has been studied throughout history (2,000 years of great minds) and we are able to consult history to give us insight on how the church has answered questions. No need to answer questions again if the answer is already before us 4. Theological construction - Theological models are important to make a logical case to put biblical teachings together, we all develop a model to try to make a coherent statement about the Christian statement 5. Practical application - We want to know what the Bible says so it can get into us – giving ourselves into scripture and this theological task if done well will so integrate the biblical truth into our life, mind and heart – becoming better Christians – the goal – love God with your mind, moving him to your heart then your hands – work a little harder at this task of theology more than before to understand the Christian faith more and love God more to be spiritually rich Systematic theologian is trying to understand and apply the message of the Bible 2015 Liberty University My Thread: The study of the Bible and who God is both form a religious belief when this belief is developed either by the theological method or through accepting the task of integrating Biblical truth into our lives. Theology’s purpose, as said by Dr. Small, is “ultimately to edify the Christian and to edify the church”. (1) Technically, the theological method are steps explaining how we do theology, which is how we develop a belief about God and then how we apply it to our lives to become better

Christians. The theological method encompasses 5 major areas of investigation including philosophical evaluation, Biblical evaluation, historical development, theological construction, and practical application. The systematic theologian takes on a vast assignment in this stepwise process considering each step by trying to interpret and understand the whole Bible as one message while also applying it to a larger audience. This method is different than other Biblical interpreters because the application step is such a vital segment.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
