The first store was opened in San Francisco, CA. 1970-Sales for Gap reached to $2 million. Gap’s second store was opened in San Jose, CA. 1974- Gap has a “Winter into the Gap” advertising campaign 1976- Gap goes public and offers 1.2 million shares of stock on NY and Pacific Stock Exchanges 1977- Gap Foundation- Gap In’s Nonprofit charitable is established 1983- Millard (“ Mickey”) Drexler joins the company as president and COO of the Gap division- Gap acquires Banana Republic (It was a 2-store safari/Travel company) 1986-Gapkids was opened in San Mateo, CA 1987- 1 st Gap store outside of the U.Z. opens- ( George St.) London, England. Gap Inc. reaches $1 billion. 1988- Gap introduces “ individuals of style” advertising campaign. 1989- First Gap store in Canada opens ( Vancouver, British Columbia) 1990’s- Baby Gap was born- San Francisco 1992- Becomes 2 nd largest selling apparel brand in the world 1993- Enters france with a store within Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris.
