From the Miller’s Tale we encounter a few characters and their conflicts. The three characters that I will be focusing on are John, Nicholas, and Absalon. John, a carpenter, is married to a beautiful young lady named Alison. John’s conflict is that he becomes a victim to the deception of his wife and Nicholas. Nicholas and Alison wanted to trick John. Nicholas told him that there will be a flood therefore he needs to go out and buy three bathtubs, fill them up with food, and hang them from the ceiling and cut the rope when he hears something that sounds like flooding. “I have found out by my astrology, and looking at the moon when it was bright, that Monday next, a quarter way through night, rain is to fall in torrents, such as scud. It will be twice as bad as Noah’s Flood”. Nicholas told this to John because he wanted to make a fool of him and get a laugh out of it with Alison Nicholas found John’s wife, Alison, very attractive and he wanted to be with her. The first time Nicholas attempted to make a move on Alison she started screaming and didn’t want him at all.
