Utilitarianism is the ethical theory that evaluates the morality of an act or a rule in terms of its consequences, and whereby an act is seen as moral if it produces the greatest net good for the greatest number (Mosser, 2014) The quote I chose to use is by Henry Sidwick and he says “The good of any one individual is of no more importance, from the point of view of the universe, than the good of any other.” As for whether minimizing suffering is equal to, lesser than, or more important that generating the greatest good for the greatest number I think that it all depends on the situation. For instance my kid’s dad he is constantly suffering from all of the pain he is in and he tells me that he would rather just die. He has asked me on several occasions to just let him die. I know that would be the ideal choice for him but it is illegal for me to do that. He tells me that he would write letters to let everyone know it was his choice to die. I myself could never in a million years do anything to harm him. I try to do everything I can

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
