Adriana N Rodriguez Oct 9, 2007 Th 11-12:30 KIN 325K Lab Reports I. Lab 4 – Heart Rate-VO 2 Relationship: Arm vs. Leg Work II. Purpose The purpose of this lab is to demonstrate the differences in oxygen consumption that can occur during exercise at the same heart rate but utilizing a small versus large muscle mass. III. Methods The subject will complete five 3-minute stages of ergometry while breathing continuously into a Hans Rudolph two-way non-rebreathing valve. Metabolic data will be collected with a Physio-dyne Max-1 metabolic cart. The first 3-minute stage will be at rest, followed by two stages of arm ergometry at a low and then high work rate. The last two stages will employ leg ergometry at a low and then high work rate. Heart rate and VO 2 data will be recorded throughout the testing. IV. Results 1) If two individuals are training for the same amount of time per day and at the same level of oxygen consumption but one person is doing running
