Application of the Finite Element Method Using MARC and Mentat Appendix 1-1 Appendix 1: Helpful Tidbits Modifying your .cshrc file to enable easier execution of Mentat and Marc: This section is only valid for Michigan State University users. Add the following lines to your .cshrc file: if (-e $DECS/mentat) then source $DECS/mentat endif if (-e $DECS/marc) then source $DECS/marc endif After these lines have been added and the .cshrc file has been saved, type: source .cshrc You are now ready to launch Mentat by typing: mentat Working directory: Your working directory is the directory in which your model files and output files will be written, read and stored. It is recommended that you create a new working directory for each project. Further, it is recommended that you launch Mentat and run Marc from within your working directory. To create a new directory in unix: mkdir dirname
