Measure Static and Kinetic friction forces using a force sensor 2. Measure the coefficients of Static and Kinetic friction between surfaces 3. Analyze each force with a free body diagram and experimentally prove your predictions of kinetic and static forces in the case when a friction cart is pulled up along an incline plane. Introduction The objective of our lab is to measure the static and kinetic frinonal forces by using a force sensor. We are going to determine the relationship between friction force and normal acting on an object and to measure the coefficients of static friction and kinetic friction between surfaces and to verify that these two values are independent of the normal force. Lastly, we are going to analyze the forces using free body diagrams and experimentally verify predictions in the case of a friction cart moving up an inclined plane that involves friction (Part II). Static friction is a frictional force that occurs between two bodies in contact while still at rest. It also opposes the movement of an object. Kinetic friction is a frictional force that opposes the movement of an object which is already in motion. An applied force requires larger force than the maximum static frictional force ( f s , max ) in order to slide an object on a surface where static frictional
