Radiation Reading Chapters 12-13 Incropera and DeWitt, 5 th Edition. The text takes a much more theoretical (and consequently mathematical) approach to radiation and radiation properties then I have presented in class. Please note, when I suggest that something adds details or good background, the material may fill in some information that I have not covered in class. Radiation can be overwhelming in its mathematics, so I try to present the material that is the most useful to the engineer. Chapter 12—12.1 is good background on wavelength, etc. 12.2 gives some hard core background on radiation dependency with respect to angles, if you enjoy triple integrals, you’ll love it! 12.3 is good background and has been covered in class albeit simplified to an engineering approach. 12.4 and 12.5 would be good background on emissivity and the other surface properties.
