Convection Reading Chapters 6-9 Incropera and DeWitt, 5 th Edition. Chapter 6 has been covered conceptually. Recommend Sections for background are 6.1, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.3, 6.4. Chapter 7-- Section 7.2.1 does some background on solving momentum and energy equation for flow over a flat plate, interesting but not required reading. The remainder of section 7.2.x covers turbulent and mixed (transition) boundary layers. These sections end with the respective correlations. It is important to understand what the boundary conditions and fluids mechanics are for the correlations. Section 7.3 has some good example problems in it. Sections 7.4- 7.8 cover different external geometries (cylinder in cross flow, sphere, etc) emphasizing the important correlations for each. Section 8.3 derives the energy equation for flow in a pipe of general cross section; we’ll derived this in class, a little differently but basically the same equation. Sections 8.4-8.8 cover the appropriate correlations for different boundary conditions and geometries for internal flows. Chapter 9--. Sections 9.1-9.5 give an overview of the mathematics; we will cover sections 9.1, 9.2, and most of 9.3 in class. Sections 9.4 and 9.5 will be discussed conceptually. Sections 9.6-9.8 cover the correlations that we have introduced in class, these sections as with the prior correlation sections should be reviewed to understand when and where the correlation is valid....
