Procedure: Students first identified a jaw coupling and its components then using the LOVEJOY catalogue found a standard part number correlating to the given coupling. Given certain specifications, students had to calculate nominal and design torque and find a coupling from the catalog that fulfilled those requirements. Lastly, given different couplings students had to figure what type of misalignments each permitted. Results:The results for the labs are enclosed in the attached forms. Conclusions/Recommendations: Couplings are used to connect two rotating shafts to transmit power and function in many different conditions and applications. There are various types of couplingsand the three basic types being rigid, flexible and u-joints. This lab allowed students to identify different couplings and various alignments while utilizing the LOVEJOY catalog.
