Chapter 7 Questions 1. What does infrared mean? How does infrared differ from near infrared? Infrared, meaning below red, is light that has a lower frequency than red light. Infrared is at longer wavelengths (lower frequency) than near infrared. 2. What are the two kinds of filters built into the IR detectors used in this text? What does each do? There is an optical filter and an electronic filter. The optical filter rejects all but the 980nm infrared light we want to detect. The electronic filter only allows signals around 38.5 kHz. 3. What is the frequency of the harmonic sent by FREQOUT 2, 1, 38500 ? 38.5 kHz is the frequency of the harmonic. How long are these signals sent for? 1 millisecond What I/O pin does the IR LED circuit have to be connected to in order to broadcast this signal? I/O pin 2. 4. What command has to immediately follow the FREQOUT command in order to accurately determine whether or not an object has been detected? The command which stores the detector's output in a variable.
