Decker, 1Kelly DeckerLabor Relations MGT-441-CL02Professor J. Dante Arcenal14, February 2017Assignment 5Question 1: Would you expect a stronger anti-union response from an employer in manufacturing or an employer in a service industry?I believe that a stronger anti-union response would come from the employers in the service employees make more than those in the manufacturing industry. In the service industry the labor rates are higher, so the union would have more room to negotiate wages and benefits. Seeing that wages and benefits are a main negotiation for unions, employers would try much harder to keep them from an area in which they would succeed. Unionization would have much more of an impact on the service industry compared to the manufacturing industry. Question 2: What are the potential long-term problems for unions in agreeing to labor-management cooperation programs?“Critical factors for the ongoing success of the programs are the training and commitmentof supervisors and the construction and understanding of the bonus formulas” (Fossum, 2015).
