U.S. History Syllabus Goals The goals of the course are the following: 1) the student will acquire an understanding of the major narrative and trends of U.S. history; 2) the student will acquire a basic understanding of historiography, i.e. the principles, theories and methods used in the academic discipline of history; 3) the student will improve their critical thinking, reading and writing skills. Assignments Text The text used in the course is Alan Brinkley, American History, Connecting with the Past , 15th AP Ed. This is the key resource for the student. All tests are based on the assumption that the student has read the book as well as made notes from the lectures. A list of nightly readings are provided in the syllabus for the entire first semester. Therefore, the student is expected to be current with the reading even if absent from school. Grading Grades are based on a percentage of the total number of points received.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
