How do you think that investigators and therapists, in their quest to find the truth, may have contributed to children making false or exaggerated allegations in these cases? Children do not like to get in trouble and they might be afraid that they will get into trouble. So, a child may tell an adult what they think they want to hear or what they think might keep them out of trouble. Children can be easily manipulated and persuaded by people when being asked questions. You may havea better chance of getting the truth by asking a child what happened and listing to what they would haveto say. Investigators and therapists ask children so many questions that they may be confused as to what is going on. A lot of times a child may be asked more than once and in different ways that a child will say yes due to that’s what they want to hear. Many therapists believe that children go through stages while they reveal their sexual abuse. “This theory assumes that it is very difficult for children to discuss having been sexually abused. Thus, the therapist or interviewer must ask direct, leading questions, and ask them repeatedly until the child discloses abuse. Special methods, like fantasy play, guided imagery, the use of anatomically correct dolls and other props, etc.” (2010 & Ontario, 1998)What implications do these types of cases have for people who run childcare centers?Implications like these types will not only ruin a childcare center for good but other childcare centers in the area may be at risk for implications. It doesn’t matter if the childcare center employees would later be found innocent the center would never be able to come back due to people talk and you can find anything on the internet. When people hear about abuse going on at a childcare center near them they think could this happen to my child and then parents think that they should question their kids. As a parent, we think you never know what can happen and when parents hear things they start to worry even if there is no need to worry. What are the lessons learned from these cases?Cameras should be installed into childcare centers to avoid any problems that may arise and if somethingdoes come up you can find out who is lying or doing something they shouldn’t be.
