Contents and Intended Learning Outcomes The course is aimed at analyzing the role of money and the financial markets, their interaction with the aggregate economy and the tool of monetary policy. The course is divided in two parts. The first part focuses on the micro-economic foundations of money and the financial markets. We analyze real investment, the nature of money, the functioning of the financial markets, money demand and money supply in detail. The second part aggregates agents’ decision in the so called “macro-models”. We analyze the IS-LM and the AD-AS models and investigate the role of monetary policy as stabilization tool; we also explore very recent developments in the study of financial factors in the business cycle.
