Italian Cinema Tutorial #2 Friday September 20 th 2013 Rome, open city - First symbol: When Pina and Francesco sit on the stairs and talk about the future- this shows us that the movie is a film about the future spring time is a key word in this dialogue because we know that at the end of the spring in 1944 there will be a rebirth of an entire nation-they will be free - Open city- in spite of the tragedies taking place, it is eventually a film about the projecting future and the hopes of liberation from 20 years of dictatorship - Second Symbol: The role of children in the film -When they witness the death of Don Pietro, they walk back to the city of Rome - The unifying symbol in the film- the opening scene there is a panorama shot of the city from the rooftops and in the middle of the frame we see the dome of St. Peter’s church (this is the most recognizable spot in the skyline of Rome) we see this again at the very end of the film when the children walk back to the city

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
