Psychiatric Technician-Competencies required: To have the desire to help people, tact, patience, tolerance, and understanding, good communication skills, emotional stability and dependability, to have the ability to work as part of a team, and to perform repetitive, routine tasks. -Certifications necessary: After one year of service, PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIANS can advance to senior psychiatric technician. With experience, ability, additional education, and on-the-job training, technicians may become supervisors, developmental spets, nursing coordinators, and managers.-Courses that would be appropriate: Nursing Practical/Vocational, Psychiatric/Mental Health Svcs Tech, and Psychology- Type of work performed: They provide nursing care to mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or mentally retarded patients.
