We have finally moved from blaming of the mother to an understanding of autism as a genetic disorder. Given our seeming propensity for "blaming", what potential "inappropriate" reactions do you imagine might come about as a result of this new understanding of the genetic basis of autism? The term “Genetic Disorder” can possible incite the feeling of disbelief, whether this feeling is inappropriate or not I’m not sure, but the belief that all autism cases is a direct result of the correlation from the lineage of genic deformities from the child’s heritage is a little unsettling. I’m still not convinced that autism’s final diagnosis should be coined genetic disorder, from my research on autism I have yet to see any one definitive resolve regarding what is the cause of Autism. The Autism Society [2015] states. There is no known single cause for autism spectrum disorder, but it is generally accepted that it is caused by abnormalities in brain structure and/or function.
