Unformatted text preview: ME457 — HW #1 (1.1) In the Wizard of 02, the Tin Man's one purpose was to have a brain. Perhaps the request was too much in 1939 for the Wizard to grant. But in modern time, the wizards have a hard time finding jobs. The engineers have taken their place. Specificaily, the discipline of Mechatronics is the magic that has given the old Tin Man a brain or rather has given the gears of machines some sense. Examples range from auto—focus cameras, car air-bags, irons that will never burn a shirt, and even automatic flushing toilets. Like a Cherry Blossom tree growing in the wild, Mechatronics roots consist of mechanical, electrical and computer engineers. Its trunk is the melding of these disciplines into one, and from which limitless possibilities branch out and flower into new .unique inventions and state of the art revisions of older machines. To revise an old saying: Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime.
