In this assignment we (actually, you) study the behavior of a road vehicle under acceleration and braking conditions. The forces acting on a vehicle under acceleration conditions are shown in Figure 3.1. The forces acting under braking conditions are shown in Figure 3.47. In both cases we assume that the vehicle has motion in the X-direction, the Z-direction, and pitch, p. There is no roll, yaw, or side-slip (Y) motion. Hence we can use a "half-car" model, as abstracted in Figure 4-1. The parameters of interest are given in Table 4-1. We will assume that the road is level and smooth in our study. (a) Make a bond graph model of the "half-car" for the case of a level, smooth road. Allow for motion in the X, Z, and p directions. (b) Derive system equations for the model in part (a). (c)
