There are 12 pairs ( right and left) of Cranial nerves numbers 1-12 (I- XII) which begin at the base of the skull Nerve: bundle of hundreds to thousands of axons plus associated (CT) and blood vessels that lie outside the brain and spinal cord Spinal Cord: connects to the brain and is encircled by the bones of the vertebral column contains about 100 million neurons Spinal Nerves: there are 31 pairs of Spinal Nerves emerge from the left side of the body Ganglia = swelling or knot) are small masses of nervous tissue located outside the brain and spinal cord Enteric plexuses: help regulate the digestive system Sensory receptors are either dendrites of sensory neurons (such as sensory receptors on the skin) Sensory functions detect many different types of stimuli both with in your body such as an increase in blood temp outside your body such as a touch on your arm Intergrative functions- process sensory information by analyzing and storing some if it
