Zachary Cleveland English 1101 June 23, 2008 In “The Singer Solution to World Poverty,” the author turned the problem of donating money to overseas organizations into a moral issue. He states that every household can live well off of thirty thousand dollars a year and the rest of the money earned should go to save children that are less fortunate. The essay really makes one think about the money people could spare and how many lives people could save over the years. I do not believe that people would go as far as Singer wants them to, but I’m sure his writing influenced some donations. What is preventing people from applying this plan? I believe there are a lot of reasons. People feel as though they earned their money through hard work and don’t want to just send it out to the other side of the world not knowing exactly what is being done with it. As for the younger adults, I believe they are too caught up in a materialistic world to worry about problems that have nothing to do with them and are thousands of miles away. Many Americans have their money spent before they even receive their check. We
