HOMEWORK 5: REVISITING THE BASICS WITH COMSOL The goal of this assignment is to familiarize you with how to solve a 1-D problem in COMSOL. We will revisit the topics that were covered in homework #1 and #2. You should explore all of the menus and settings so that you are better equipped to set up 2-D and 3-D problems. When in doubt, use the “Help Desk” to seek out answers to your questions. In addition to the “Help Desk”, use the supplementary handout for hints on how to set up the problem. Recall the followng boundary value problem that was given in home- work #1 and #2, with domain Ω = (0 , L ): d dx p A 1 du dx P = k 2 sin ( 2 πkx L ) A 1 = given constant = 0 . 1 k = given constant L = 1 u (0) = Δ 1 = given constant = 0 u ( L ) = Δ 2 = given constant = 1 (1) Using the parametric solver in COMSOL, solve the boundary value problem using linear equal-sized elements for values of k = 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32. Do this for meshes of N=100 and N=1000 elements. Plot the
