Working with scholars, researchers, arts activists, and guest artists from the Los Angeles community and the Center for the Art of Performance, students learn first-hand from visiting artists about their art-making processes; attend performances and exhibitions on campus; develop written responses to those events; and participate in creative workshops exploring students’ own artistic production. Through this integrated process of study, spectatorship, writing, and creative exploration, students expand their understanding of the unique role artists and audiences play in the interface between culture and creativity. Tickets: Attendance at select events is required. This quarter, there are seven required events: six of these require purchase of a ticket, and one is free.Tickets are less expensive than the cost of textbooks and you will be able to experience the arts live, some times in an intimate performance venue. Please buy your tickets by the end of the first week of class and, each week, turn in your ticket stub to your T.A. as proof of 1
attendance. If you wait to the last minute to purchase tickets they might not be available, and attendance is required.Instructions on how to purchase tickets are included throughout the syllabus under the headingArts Encounter.
