What is Coronary Artery Disease?Coronary Artery Disease affects roughly 3 million peoplein the United States every year. Coronary artery disease isa condition where the major blood vessels that supply yourheart with oxygen, nutrients and blood have becomedamaged or diseased due to them becoming blocked withcholesterol deposits, called plaque.When plaque builds up, the arteries become narrow, andthat means decreased blood flow to your heart. Decreasedblood flow to your heart can cause chest pain, calledangina, shortness of breath as well as hypertension. If leftuntreated the blockage can become so severe that thepatient will have a heart attack.
