Alexandra Duffell Professor Gurung English 1 March 31, 2008 Is Clinton the New Bush? For the past several months, the fight for the democratic presidential candidacy has been very difficult to ignore. The race between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton has created a large amount of noise in the United States, forcing everyone to give their opinion on the issue. The New York Times’ opinions journalist, Frank Rich gives his views on the matter quite freely. In his February 24 th article “The Audacity of Hopelessness” he tears the Clinton campaign apart, comparing its strategies and worth to that of the current Bush administration regarding the war in Iraq. He continues on to compare and contrast the differences between the Clinton and Obama campaigns, using the Obama campaign as an example on how to correctly run for presidential candidate. Noting the subject of his article, along with the tone and opinion of the piece, it is clear to see that the target audience would either be Obama supporters or Clinton opposers in general; with the purpose of commenting on the recent events in the democratic race. Frank Rich presents his argument against Clinton to her enemies in a humorous yet intelligent style, using
