Analysis: It has become increasingly apparent that in today’s day and age, competitive advantage is no longer as advantageous as it once was. Previously, companies could invest in their resources that would allow them to isolate themselves from their competitors and give them that boost to the top of their market. However, in today’s economic environment, it seems, companies are having harder and harder times in accomplishing these feats that used to be so simple. With today’s technology and learned expertise in all areas, companies are finding it more and more difficult to find those isolating mechanisms and keeping them effective. These resources are, now, too easily replicated and utilized market-wide, making many products similar allowing customers the ability to choose from a wide range of options. Obviously, there will always be those companies that find it easy to sustain their competitive advantage. Making highly complicated and unique machines will allow some companies to maintain their competitive advantage. Those companies that produce and sell daily necessities (such as food) will always be able to exploit some kind of advantage for a period of time. Furthermore, those companies that invest in deep, meaningful customer relationships will always have one leg up on its competitors. However, companies that used to be able to capitalize on some sort of competitive advantage previously are now find it hard to sustain. Companies that find themselves in fields such as music, technology, travel, communication, automobile, and electronics would all find themselves in the third class previously described in the summary, fast cycle resources.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
