Are these effects real or are there also MJ myths? - In high doses, can cause anxiety, paranoia , lower sperm count - Can alter memory, intelligence, personality - Smoking MJ causes cancer o Is a possibility because no one really knows - MJ causes amotivational syndrome o Less motivation It could also go the other way. (which comes first the chicken or the egg) - Still, most acknowledge that MJ does not cause overdoses Can MJ cause physical dependence? Is there a withdrawal syndrome associated with MJ? - Those who say “yes:” argue symptoms of MJ withdrawal include craving, irritability, restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, sweating , nausea, cramping - Also argue heavy users more likely report severe withdrawal symptoms than less frequent users o Greater the dose= the greater the response Those who say MJ does not causes physical addiction argue - MJ withdrawal is not universal even in heavy users o In 1 study: only 42.4% heavy users withdraw
