Sociology of Drugs 1.26.2016 Cocaine- Routes of Administration - Coca leaf (2500 BC) o People were chewing it o Gradually absorbed through the jaw - Cocaine hydrochloride (HCL) is a powder (1844—when it was first isolated. The only part of the leaf that can get you high)—this is the part of the leaf that gets you high and is more potent than the coca leaf itself o Snort o Inject - Basuco (a gummy substance that is the by product of turning the coca leaf into cocaine and it is smokeable and 90% pure, not safe because a lot of chemicals are in it not in the US), Freebase (take powdered cocaine and make it smokeable, you heat it up and smoke the vapors—requires the use of ether s its dangerous), Crack ( a lot easier to make, because they are rocks and you heat them in a pipe and smoke the vapors) : smoke - Smoking produces the best highs o Faster onset than IV? Smoking gives a greater high o Small amounts produce intense high - Lasts a few minutes (smoke, injection) to ½ hour (snort) to 1 hour (chewed)

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
