WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH ?*Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. *Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
WHO IS AFFECTED BY MENTAL HEALTH?*Individuals with biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry*Bipolar disorder afects approximately 5.7 million adult Americans, or about 2.6% of the U.S. population age 18 and older every year. (National Institute of Mental Health)*The median age of onset for bipolar disorder is 25 years (National Institue of Mental Health), although the illness can start in early childhood or as late as the 40's and 50's.*Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse*Family history of mental health problems
MENTAL HEALTH IN THE UNITED STATES *Bipolar Disorder in 2016- More than 2 Million Adults*Schizophrenia in 2016-estimated that 1.2% of the population * Major Depression in 2016- more then 15 million American adults* Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in 2016- 2.2 million men and women afected mainly equally* Post Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 2016- 7.7 million women are more likely to be afected than men
MEDICAL/COUNSELING * The individuals with biological factors like genes and brain chemistry would be able to receive the necessary help that is needed, such as counseling and prescribed medications.
