CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM2The definition of campaign finance reform is the political effort in the United States tochange the involvement of money in politics, primarily in political campaigns. The current statusof campaign finance reform has three main avenues that will regulate campaign finance. A fewstates rely on one but most use a combination of two or three. The three methods are disclosure, contribution limits, and public financing. Disclosure is the most basic form of campaign financeregulation. It’s stated, “All states require some level of disclosure from candidates, committees, and political parties of the amount and source of contributions and expenditures. The states varyin the detail required in disclosures, and in the frequency of reporting” (NCSL, 2011). In manystates, a recent trend is electronic disclosure. States require candidates to file their reportselectronically, using the Internet, and then post the disclosure information on a public website.
