Unformatted text preview: ESM 242: Assignment #3 Due in class Tuesday May 29, 2007 1 A Simplified Model of Water Allocation in the Klamath Basin Use the following stylized information to create an Excel model to evaluate different water man- agement policies under different environmental and economic assumptions. Assume that the model and initial parameter values were chosen by experts, and therefore represent “best guesses”, but are not known with certainty. The model consists of the following modules: • Reservoir volume evolves as follows: V t +1 = V t- S t- A t + R t (1) where V is volume of the reservoir, S is the release for non-consumptive use (salmon in this model), A is diversion for agricultural purposes, and R is inflow (net of evaporation) into the reservoir. • Endangered Sucker fish live in the reservoir. Their population evolves as follows: X t +1 = θV t μX γ t e- βX t (2) where X is population and the greek letters are parameters. Note that V enters into the growth of the population.
