M13 Assignment: Managing Work Groups and Teams
1.
When Nikki was a freelancer, she participated in a problem-solving team at Holden.
Problem-solving teams are comprised of knowledge workers who gather to solve a
specific problem and then disband. Because Nikki was an outside entity doing work for
Holden, her relationship with Holden can best be described as this type of team. When
she became a full-time employee at Holden, she became part of a work team. Work teams
are responsible for the daily work of the organization. Her experience changed when she
joined this team because she now shared the same goals as Holden. This created a sense
of belonging in the company and helped her gain experience. With the same end goals in
mind, this created a more efficient team for Holden.

Holden’s design team had several characteristics that contributed to high cohesiveness
among team members. One factor is agreement on goals. When every member of a team
