Emily Capdeville November 23, 2007 On the Brink & Why the Markets Can’t Fix Themselves: Busted Papers 7 – 8 Word Count: 582 Fundamental Ethical Personal Individual Change: Is it Possible? Both articles, On the Brink , by Jack Beatty and Why the Markets Can’t Fix Themselves: Busted by George Soros, dissect basic problems that are being faced by the American and global community and also by individuals. The issue prevalent in both of these articles is not that the problems exist, but how should they be solved. Two major themes prevail. They can be solved by releasing control over them, and having things happen as the will (Soros’ “market fundamentalism”) or by leaving it up to each individual to make a decision on an issue that effects mankind at large (the “personal virtue” of conservation in Beatty’s article.) Or, people can come together and make collective decisions in the global community that has been created on how to manage the market, save the environment and increase standards in all sectors of civilized life.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
