Modern Architecture or modernist architecture is a term applied to an overarching movement, with its exact definition and scope varying widely. 2. Indexical Nature of Photography- Term refers to the physical relationship between the object photographed and the resulting image 3. Permian Land (1992) is a black and white photograph created by Hiroshi Sugimoto in 1992. The photo depicts a foreign landscape and strange creatures, which after doing research the viewer will find out are dimetrodons, a kind of carnivorous dinosaur! Obviously Sugimoto didn’t take a photo of a scene that would have taken place millions of years ago in the Permian period, however he did cleverly take a photo of a dinosaur diorama in a museum of natural history. In this work of art he has created his own form of time travel!
4. Permian Period – a prehistoric time period that took place 290 to 248 million years ago. 5. Dimetrodon translates to “two measures of teeth” and are the two creatures with the fins depicted in Sugimoto’s photograph. The species existed during the Early Permian period and were large carnivorous reptiles native to what is now North America. 6. Paleozoic- the earliest of the three geologic eras of the Phanerozoic Eon, translated to “ancient life” from greek, and was a “time of dramatic geological, climatic, and evolutionary change.
