Social Ties and Social Networks Social ties are friendship, advice or supportive relationships between people Social networks are aggregations of social ties n Even if you have a lot of ties, you do not necessarily have an effective network n Need to consider network structure: n What is the pattern of ties between people you know and people you don’t know.
