10/15- Batt - Three main points to Consider: Globalization o What is it? o How do you measure it? o What are the results? - Global v. International o Global: Massive Shared community Many countries/continents o International Few in number Relationship Between countries - Researchers o Global- national economies policy’s don’t matter as much, rise of global actors who move across countries; Amoeba- can move and penetrate the economy of other countries o International- billiard balls- economies/countries get in the way; distinct national economy - Three positions o Globalists- less leverage over what companies due, crossing of boundaries, permeability, multinationals and capital are footloose, welfare, labor laws social protection are eroding, very good thing, those against it feel power resides with those who have capital which leads to unbalance o Skeptics- internationalist, national governments are creating new rules and policies that increase internationalization, wouldn’t happen without governments
