Texas acquired its independence from Mexico and at first, the United States did not want Texas to join the union. The Mexican also threatened the United States that annexation would cause a war and also encouraged border raids. 2. Mexico did not recognize Texan independence, and disputed Texas’ border. Therefore, Mexico did not want America to annex Texas because then they would have disputed territory with the US. 3. Polk believed that Texas along with California and New Mexico should join the Union, and when he became President in 1844, he offered to purchase the land. When the offer was rejected, he moved troops into the disputed land between the Rio Grande and the Nueces River. 4. Due to Native American conflicts (Comanche-Mexico wars & Apache-Mexico wars), communication between the central and New Mexico was weak. As a result, New Mexico was more dependent on the Santa Fe Trail and America for help as opposed to the interiors of Mexico. This caused further tension between central and Nuevo Mexico. 5. In 1836, Mexico disputed Polk’s Manifest Destiny. Mexico threatened war with the US if Texas were to be annexed into the US. 6. On April 25, 1846, the Mexican army attacked a group of American soldiers in the region between the Rio Grande and the Nueces River that were under the control of General Zachary Taylor. This attack lead to the killing of around 12 soldiers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
