Kilby King FAVA 2/8/08 Written Assignment #4: Julia Margaret Cameron 1. Julia Margaret Cameron was born in 1815 in India. She lived in a family of seven sisters and her parents. She was educated in England and France. At the age of 23, she married Charles Cameron and had 6 children of their own and adopted 5 children. She made friends by dictating herself to writing about 300 letters a month. A lot of her important friends are such as poets, writers, politicians and etc. Later for her 48 th birthday, her daughter gave her a camera and darkroom equipments. After those gifts, she fell in love with photography. She changed her chicken coop to a glass house as her studio. She dressed her friends up in variety of different things regardless of their ranks. She did not sell her pictures but instead she gave them away. At the near end of her life, she offered a sale of her series of photographs. She left England and stayed in Sri Lanka for good. She caught a bad illness and she passed away in 1879. 2.
