Shaina Hudgel PY140 Abnormal Psychology Exam 1 Part B Essay 2: Behavioral genetics focuses on the way in which genes pass along traits or conditions. Explain the basic process of applying behavioral genetics in working with a client with a condition that could be inherited. Behavior genetics traditionally studies broad genetic influences on normal and abnormal behavior, focusing on whether genes are more or less important in development. Applying behavioral genetics in working with a client with a condition that could be inherited can be relatively simple or extremely difficult. It really all depends on the client and what they know about themselves and their family. First there are dominant and recessive genes. Dominant genes are those that, in some way, show up in men and women. For example, brown eyes are more dominant than blue; a child that has a parent with blue eyes and a parent with brown eyes, is more likely to end up having brown eyes. Whatever eye color the child does end up having, becomes the dominant gene in
