Shaina Hudgel Exam 2 Part B Question 1: Two students are struggling to pass their college classes this semester. One of them exhibits positive health behaviors, while the other gets overwhelmed and becomes depressed. Describe how the positive behaviors of the first student can help her to succeed. The positive behaviors of the first student can help her succeed in a few different ways. First, the behaviors she is showing are coping mechanisms. These coping mechanisms help her build resilience to the challenges, including very stressful ones, she experiences in everyday life. The resilience she builds up while going through difficult, stressful and even adverse situations will help her learn how to cope with even more difficult, stressful and adverse situations in the future. For this student, the stress of struggling to pass her college classes will make her stronger for future situations. Question 2: A friend meets you for coffee. She is talking so fast you can’t quite understand her, does not seem to be listening to you and mentions she hasn’t slept well for a few weeks. She also explains her thoughts about running in an election for president of her student body. Explain what symptoms she might be demonstrating and discuss what solutions might help her. She might be demonstrating symptoms of stimulant use. The short-term side effects of the use of stimulants are loss of appetite, lack of sleep, feeling more confident, friendly, and energetic, etc. My friend is showing excessive energy, lack of sleep and a feeling of being more confident. There are several solutions that might help her. Most important of them all though, is simply stopping the use of the stimulant. If she hasn’t been on it too long, the withdrawal symptoms won’t be too bad. Seeing as how she has admitted to not sleeping well for a few weeks, she has probably been taking it for a while. If this is the case, the she is going to need to go through detoxification and remission. Hopefully she will be able to achieve abstinence. Question 3: Watch an episode on cable or online or read a synopsis of the television show Hoarders and discuss the episode you saw or summary you read. Describe the symptoms of an individual on the show (or the general symptoms featured) and how they match with a potential diagnosis. The episode of Hoarders: Buried Alive that I saw, involved a man who loves to collect three things, military memorabilia, anything nautical and equipment. This man’s family have fought in every war. He himself fought in the Persian Gulf war. When he returned he began to collect his three major subjects more than he ever needed or even really wanted to. This man feels this intense need to save all the items he possibly can from the different wars his family members have participated in. This man finds his possessions meaningful and loves to tell tales about them; it is a pleasant topic of discussion for him. This man’s family is unhappy about the cramped home he lives in due to his hoarding habits and

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
